Meditation to connect up to the soul and down to the earth

Here is a simple meditation to begin with and is ideal for those starting out in meditation. The idea of this meditation is to practise connecting to your soul centre (just above the top of your head) and expanding your consciousness.  Connecting above to your soul centre and below to the earth (steps 1-5) is a useful beginning to most meditations.

Meditation
1. Sit quietly in a comfortable upright position, release all tension that you may feel in your body.

2. Take a line of light down from the base of your spine into the ground and visualise this line of light penetrating the layers of the earth until it reaches a golden ball of light in the earth's centre. This line of light connects you to the earth and keeps you grounded during meditation.

3. Take a strand of light from the golden ball of light in the earth's centre and draw it up through the layers of the earth, then through the base of your spine, through the lower centres and bring it up to rest in the area of your heart.

4. Now bring your focus to a point which is a couple of inches above the top of your head, the Soul centre. Here, visualise a ball of white light shining brightly.
5. Take a strand of light from the white ball of light above your head and drawn this down through the top of your head, through your brow and throat and bring it to rest in the heart.

6. As the two strands of light meet in your heart centre, they merge, blend and fuse together. Take a moment to note how this looks and feels inside your body and become aware of being connected both to the earth below and to the Soul or higher consciousness above.

7. The fusion of these lines of light in the heart centre create a ball of light which glows inside you.  Let this ball of light radiate and gradually expand outwards until it encompasses your whole body. This light resonates with every cell in your body and raises it's vibration.

8. Expand this ball of light even further, extending beyond the physical body and into the energy field. Let the light expand as far as feels comfortable at this time and sit for a while within this energy, noting any feelings or images that come to you.

9. When the time feels right, bring your awareness back to your heart centre and take a line of light down through the base of the spine and into the earth to ground you.

10. Slowly become aware once again of your surroundings and the room that your are in. You may find it useful to write down any thoughts, images or feelings that you have experienced during your meditation
